My Artwork in Miami Art Basel

My work was exhibited in Miami in 2022, presented by ArtSect NFT Gallery.

What is Art Basel?

Art Basel is one of the leading art fairs in the world. It takes place annually in three cities: Basel, Switzerland, Miami Beach, Florida, and Hong Kong. The fair provides a platform for artists, collectors, curators, and art enthusiasts to gather and showcase their work, as well as to discuss and explore the latest trends and developments in contemporary art. Art Basel features a diverse range of artworks, from paintings and sculptures to installations and performances, from established and emerging artists across the globe. The fair also hosts a range of events, including talks, screenings, and curated exhibitions, and attracts visitors from all over the world.

The inspiration behind the artwork?

"The New World" is a unique artwork that portrays a spider creature in a fascinating way. At first glance, the spider creature is cute and endearing, holding a cupcake and surrounded by beautiful flowers. However, upon closer inspection, the piece also presents a sense of unease, with its many legs and spiderwebs. The artwork challenges our perception of beauty and fear, blurring the lines between the two.

With the use of new digital tools, artists now have the ability to express themselves in ways that were never possible before. "The New World" is a great example of how technology can be used to create new forms of art that are both visually stunning and thought-provoking. The title of the artwork itself suggests that it represents a new frontier in digital art, showcasing how the digital realm can give birth to new and exciting creations.

How was this piece made?

I used pencil crayons to sketch out the initial concept of the character as I wanted to ensure that I portrayed the creature accurately. However, the majority of the artwork was created using digital tools. I utilized Daz and Zbrush to design the intricate features of the character, and Substance Painter to add detailed textures such as veins and makeup. The animation was rendered out in 3DS Max, and the final result was accompanied by music generously provided by Plant Skull, an electronic band whose elfian sound perfectly complemented the visuals.

I completed this piece just in time for Miami Art Basel and sent it off to be up for sale through the gallery!
